a riddle from the Hobbit .....

This thing all things devours;
Birds, beasts, trees, flowers;
Gnaws iron, bites steel;
Grinds hard stones to meal;
Slays king, ruins towns;
And beats high mountains down.

(can you guess this riddle before you read further?)

Time!! Time!!

- Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkien (from the chapter entitled Riddles in the Dark)

Indiana has most recently watched as the government officials took their basic freedom of time away. Observing Standard Time was mocked and called a crazy notion. Beaten and left to die, no one dared to notice how precious and good a constant time was for every day life and for business.

Indiana being on the edge of the time zone line has the little town governments gathering to make a mighty plan to stick together as a united front when the Dept. of Transportation comes in to decide where the fault line should be laid out . It is greedy little misers trying to control the destiny of the sun. '' We want Eastern Daylight Savings - We want Central Daylight Savings,'' are the shady mutterings of those gathered. They have no care in the world if the line should bite the north western part of the state off from the rest.

The idea of keeping the entire state on one time zone has never burst forth on their small minds. United communities means keeping the time zone line to the outer borders of our state to ensure a better quality of life and business.

Amazing that man thinks he can hold Time his hands and manipulate it into any shape he desires. Careful Time spares no one.
